CUHK School of Journalism and Communication to present and hold reception at ICA Conference in Puerto Rico 2015
Date: 21 – 25 May 2015
Venue: Puerto Rico
Details: Eleven faculty members, 8 graduate students and 2 alumni represented the School of Journalism and Communication, The Chinese University of Hong Kong to participate in the International Communication Association (ICA) Annual Conference in San Juan, Puerto Rico on Communication Across the Life Span from 21 to 25 May 2015. They presented a total of 24 authored or co-authored papers and chaired 3 panel discussion sessions.
A joint reception was also co-hosted by the Chinese Communication Association, Communication University of China and our School in Caribe Hilton Hotel on 23 May 2015. The event was well attended by more than 100 international scholars in communication. 
   
50th Anniversary International Conference on Comparative Communication Research: Reviews, Showcases, and Theoretical Advancements

Details: To commemorate the 50th Golden Jubilee of School of Journalism and Communication of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, an international conference “Comparative Communication Research: Reviews, Showcases, and Theoretical Advancements” is organized to bring together prominent scholars who have been engaging in comparative research in media and communication studies to discuss the current state of the art as well as future challenges and development of comparative communication research, especially amidst rapid social, political, and technological changes. The conference will also showcase significant comparative studies worldwide while putting emphasis on the research in Greater China and East Asia region. 
   
AEJMC Conference Montreal 2014

Details: Our Mphil student Li Miao has won an award in the Association for the Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) annual conference held in August 2014. Li Miao won the Top Student Paper Award of the Minorities and Communication Division for his paper entitled “Pluralistic Ignorance in Sino-Hong Kong Conflicts: The Perception of Chinese Mainland People Living in Hong Kong”.

The Chinese University Communication Visiting Scholar Programme 2015
Communication Education in Digital Era: Problems and Challenges

Details: Since its initiation in 2008, the widely received CUHK Communication Visiting Scholar Program has been organized annually by the School of Journalism and Communication at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. The Program aims to promote academic exchange and links among Chinese-speaking scholars in cultural China, improve the quality of research of the Chinese research community, and represent the School as the centripetal center of Chinese communication research.

Education, media exposure and political position: Mainlanders in the Hong Kong Umbrella Movement

Details: Hong Kong Umbrella Movement is a “collective unfriending war” among Mainland Chinese. Some support the protesters wholeheartedly, while some show their skeptics and opposition. Last month, the speaker and his colleagues did an online survey (N=1400-2100) on Mainland Chinese to explore what factors contribute to the distinct political positions among mainlanders. They would love to share some preliminary findings focusing on education and media exposure.
